Project one-section 4

Project one = Advertising

 To promote products
 To get people buying products or services

1.Consumerism-Advocating the rights of consumers, as against the efforts of advertisers. E.g. Clothes
Chocolate
Make up

Ad-Busters state that every purchase
We make has an effect on the planet
E.g. sweat shops & Child labour in Thailand, India.
Credit Crunch
Families living on credit
• CFC Ozone layer
• Fridges and Land fill

2.Capitalism- Companies are there to make money. The companies are few rich business men.
Can lead to inequalities in society: Rich to Poor

Ad-busters- Ad-busters are group of people who are anti-consumerist meaning they don’t all buy the luxury goods that major company sells or provide like MTV, Nike, and Versace etc. This campaign is founded by Kalle Lasn and Bill Scmalz in Vancouver, Canada. They describe themselves as "a global network of artists, activists, writers, pranksters, students, educators and entrepreneurs who want to advance the new social activist movement of the information age." www.wikipedia.com
They feel that all advertising industry is trying to persuade the modern societies to buy and max out their credit card without showing the effect that it will have on the planet.

Ad-busters have made spoof adverts that will make the consumers think twice before buying.

This is a bunch of clips about the fact on what will happen to the economy of North America if the percentage of the consumers carries on. It has different clips about the advertisement industry, on brands like CK and how kids are been raise by a televisions and every trees being cut and every oil spills the GDP goes up. It’s a very strong political criticism on how the major societies are being run that companies who only care about making money.

This is a funny, but has a strong message to the beauty industry. One of the parts that made me laugh, was the part where the male model, was being photograph, and looking in his pants, and it had a logo saying ‘OBSSESION for MEN’ it was a spoof of the Calvin Klein’s advert. Another strong but funny ad buster’s ad that made me laugh was the ‘Reality for Men’ it’s a picture of a man, fat with a hairy body. It shows that man would buy the products thinking that they would look like the people in the real adverts.
