Since 1997, XXL has competed with hip-hop powerhouse magazines such as The Source and Vibe. It was founded by former Source staffer Jules Winnfield, as well as others who wanted to create a better magazine than The Source, which they felt was compromised because Benzino, a Boston, Massachusetts-based rapper and associate of The Source publisher David Mays, were believed to be influencing the editorial content and rating system. The magazine's editors have included Elliott Wilson and Datwon Thomas.
In December 2006, XXL took over the hip-hop producer/DJ magazine Scratch (another title owned by Harris Publications), rebranding it as "XXL Presents Scratch Magazine". It shut down in September 2007. Other titles with limited runs have also been launched under the XXL umbrella, including Hip-Hop Soul, Eye Candy Magazine and Shade45 Magazine.

Vibe is a magazine, launched 1993 by founder Quincy Jones. The publication predominantly features R&B and hip-hop music artists, actors and other entertainers. Issued monthly, the magazine's target audience is predominantly young, urban followers of hip-hop culture. Though hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons was rumored to be an initial partner, publisher Len Burnett revealed in a March 2007 interview that Simmons clashed with Editor-in-chief Jonathan Van Meter.
The magazine owes its success to having a broader range of interests than its closest competitors The Source and XXL which focus more narrowly on rap music or the rock & pop-centric Rolling Stone and Spin. It also differs from the more staid Essence, Ebony or Jet publications by attracting younger readers of many ethnicities. As of 2007 Vibe has a circulation of approximately 800,000. Advertisers run the gamut from record labels to Dolce & Gabbana to Cognac brands.

Ways of accessing the music industries.
There are also many programs to help musicians on the way of being an artist programs like Reason for editing music and Fruity loops for making beats thier are thousands of programs to use.
Audience
Buying music online is now a simpler way to download music on your Gadget, using software like I-tunes to download mp3 can be quick and cheap way to listen to music. You can buy single files for as cheap as 79p or buy the whole album. Mp3 is also more portable compare to a CD Walkman you can also download thousand of tracks Like and ipod shuffle which can hold about 1-2 thousands of music *estimated plus an ipod has also Photos, Videos , and Films features that the user can enjoy.
This encourages “criminal” activity by downloading tracks that are not licensed, by doing this you find yourself breaking the law not even noticing. Most people use Peer to Peer, file sharing e.g. Limewire.
Industry
New Music “Vox Pop”
- Q. “Do you use Peer to Peer to download music?”
- Q. “Do you own an iPod or MP3 device?”
- Q. “What sites do you use to access music?”

CD Cover
This is my cd cover i made for T.I
This is the cd cover i edited on adobe photoshop CS3 it was originally plain black back ground so i change it so it would have the scarface theme effect with the half white half balck. In the orginal cover you can see his face in a none sketch for so i went and change that because i think i look better i also change the font it was originally written across his face but i move it to his head so you can see it better. Thier were a few problems while i was changing the colour like his hat was the same colour as the background and i wanted to change it so i use the polygon lasso to do this i selected the area i wanted and change the colour in image then adjustment and then change its hue/saturation.
